Australian certifications and compliance covered
Our soundproof office booths have been built with the highest quality materials in an ISO 9001 certified factory. Our pod is RCM compliant, meaning it has been tested to the necessary Australian and New Zealand laws for electrical safety. As well, all wall, floor and ceiling linings have been certified to the relevant Australian fire standards, including AS 5637.1, AS 1530.3 and ISO 9239.1. TLDR - our booths are fire safe!

Delivery and assembly
How long does assembly and installation take?
The Nook can usually be assembled in under an hour, while The Cove takes around 2–3 hours. Timing can vary a little depending on things like site access, parking or loading zones, and whether lifts or stairs are involved.
Power requirements
Do I need an electrician to set up The Nook or The Cove?
In short, no. Both The Nook and The Cove come fully pre-wired with power, lighting, and ventilation already built in. Our installation team simply plugs the unit into an available AU power wall outlet. Quick and easy.
Payment terms
What are the payment options and terms for purchasing The Nook or The Cove?
You can easily purchase online, where GST and delivery/installation costs are calculated automatically based on your postcode.
For offline purchases, we require a 50% deposit to secure your order, with the remaining 50% due 7 days after delivery.
We also understand that flexibility can be important, especially for smaller teams, so we’re happy to offer tailored payment options where needed. Just reach out to us at sales@recess.com.au, and we’ll talk you through what’s possible.
Sustainability
Are Recess booths environmentally friendly?
Yes, sustainability is a big part of what we do at Recess. Our booths are made using FSC-certified timbers and recycled PET materials, and they’re packaged in recycled cardboard.
In fact, choosing a Recess booth helps save over 1,200 plastic bottles from going to waste something we’re really proud of. If you’d like to learn more, feel free to explore our sustainability page here.
Moving your booth
Can your booths be moved around the office or relocated to a new office?
Of course! Both the Nook and Cove have been built so that moving them around the office is easy between two able people. If wanting to move the booths to a different level of your office or you're relocating, we can provide clear instructions for your movers to make the process smooth and stress-free.

Outdoor purposes
Can the booths be used outdoors?
Our booths are designed for indoor use only. The panels are made from MDF, which can expand or contract when exposed to changes in moisture and humidity, so outdoor use isn’t recommended.

Soundproofing vs partitions
What's the difference between a soundproof booth and a regular office partition?
Office partitions might block your view but they won't block the noise. A soundproof booth is a fully enclosed, acoustically engineered space designed to significantly reduce noise, the equivalent of turning a busy open-plan office into a quiet library. Recess booths also include ventilation, lighting and power built in, so you're not just partitioning space, you're creating a proper workspace.

How soundproof are your office booths?
Not all office booths are created equal. Recess soundproof booths are tested to NIC ASTM E336 standards, achieving up to 32dB of sound reduction. That's enough to hold a private phone call or a focused working session without hearing the office noise around you. The Nook (1 person) achieves up to 32dB and The Cove (2–4 people) achieves up to 30dB.
Installation requirements
Can a soundproof office booth be installed in any office?
Pretty much. Recess soundproof office booths plug into a standard AU power outlet, no electrician needed. They're freestanding, so there's no construction, no permanent modifications and no landlord drama. Our two-person install team handles everything, usually in under an hour for The Nook. All you need is a flat floor and a power point nearby.
Cost and ROI
Are acoustic office booths worth the investment?
If your team is losing focus to open-plan noise, an acoustic office booth pays for itself quickly. Recess booths start from $7,495 +GST, need no construction or council approval, and can move with you if you relocate. They're also modular, so when your needs change, nothing goes to waste. Compare that to the cost of a traditional office fit-out.
Choosing your booth size
What size of soundproof booth does my team need?
For solo work such as phone calls, deep focus, or video calls, The Nook fits one person comfortably at 105 × 105cm. For group work, interviews or collaborative sessions, The Cove seats up to four people at 220 × 120cm. Both include built-in ventilation, lighting and power, so they're ready to use from day one.
